Family: In a Whole New Light

In 2006, I photographed my assistant Jenn and her family at their home (see below).

This year, we decided to go it one better and invite the increasingly-famous videographer Cameron Trejo along to capture the true essence of this cool fam. Enjoy the show and if you'd like YOUR family to be ROCK STARS, just give us a call!

Happy Birthday Jenn!

You just can't go it alone in this cold, cruel world so it pays to have good people around you. Jenn Linton, my trusty, oft-abused assistant is the grease in the wheels of ATJ Photo--not only is she smart and capable, she is incredibly funny and the best mom in the world. So Happy Birthday to Jenn and here's a little pic of a typical day at the office....love ya Jenn!

Congratulations Breckyn!

It's been about 7 years ago now that I met an 11 year old girl who was unlike anyone I'd ever known before. She was at a tough spot in her life but she wasn't letting it get her down. She had big dreams, she also had a big heart. She showed me that not all 11 year olds are concerned with peer pressure. She knew how to protect and defend those who couldn't help themselves. She was a champion of the underdog and known among her peers (and brothers:) as fierce and fearless in the face of danger. Although some of her ideas caused a few problems now and then (i.e. snowboarding on her tailbone, talking little brothers into leaping over couches resulting in broken bones, getting up close and personal with a ski tow rope handle---I could go on...) she always had good intentions (i think...).

I've learned some important lessons from her; lessons like:
How to be the bigger person and say, "I'm sorry" even when it's hard and you really don't want to.
How to accept people into your life who are different and learn to love them for who they are.
How to be a good friend and a good listener to your friends.
How to take tough situations and disappointment and still come out on top.

Her only problem is that she doesn't yet know that she's beautiful or how amazing she really is. But she will.

So, she's 18 now, a young woman, ready to take on the world. This Thursday, she will graduate high school and move into the world of adulthood. And you know how that time of life goes. You're busy with friends, running here and there, never home. But before she walks up to the podium to get that diploma, I just want to say, "I love you Breckyn, there's no one in the world like you and I'm so grateful to be your step mom."
Go Tigers 2008!

A Bag of Love

I was in Santa Monica last week with my sis. Me, looking for visual inspiration. Her, looking for $60,000 coffee tables for her interior design clients (different worlds, different worlds). Anyway, one of our main goals of the trip was a trip to Hennessey and Ingalls Bookstore which specializes in books on Architecture, Interior Design, Graphic Design and, ahem, Photography---you know, all the disciplines that the coffee table books are made for. They had it ALL--it was pure crack heaven! After 2 hours and an undisclosed amount of cash later we left with the assurance that our purchases would be shipped forthwith. And what should come upon my doorstep this day but a box full of love complete with my very own Hennessey and Ingalls tote bag AND a note thanking me for my purchase. I submit that customer service is not dead! And what could be better than having a whole bag full of brand new eye candy to delve into? [Sigh] I just noticed there was a web address on that tote! Happy Day---

April Fools to My Hubby

The girls at Ivan's work set this little scene up at his desk while he was at lunch. The sign says, "You've been converted." It's only funny if you know that he is an avowed "PC Guy"(sadly) and they took his precious PC and replaced it with an Apple MacBook.

My favorite part is the Bass Fishing Screen Saver--Happy April Fools!

Coming Soon!

My latest book is due to be released any day now. The title is Photographing Children: Photography Workshop. It is part of a series of books published by Wiley Publishing and conceived by the amazing photographer Robert Farber. Co-authored with Bay Area Children's photographer, Ginny Felch, it was so much work but it will be fun to see the final product. There were many amazing photographers who contributed their work to this book. Just a few are the fabulous Jeff and Julia Woods, Melanie Sikma, Kim Heffington, Lisa Russo, Marianne Drenthe, Laura Cottrill and so many others, I know I'm forgetting some. A big thanks to Ginny and all the great photographers who contributed. Whew! It's done!

So it's available on amazon here.
