Dreams Do Come True!

While slaving away at holiday card design earlier this week, a knock came at my door with a wonderful surprise behind it. Amanda M. had just received her acceptance to Brooks Institute, arguably one of the best schools in the country for photography. She stopped by with her mom to share the news just after she opened the envelope. I've known Amanda for about 5 years. I first met her when I was her Young Women's leader at church. It is amazing to watch these girls grow up before your eyes. I'm so proud of her and know she will do amazing things. Go Amanda!!!

Love this Girl!

This is A and you've seen her many times if you've ever surfed my website. Well, you've seen her legs on the splash page and she's the genius behind the much-copies lime green wellies. I've known this chica since she was 11 and she could have been the CEO of a Fortune 500 company back then! A is the glue that helps hold my kid's lives together---she is the after school pick-up, the last minute date night enabler and all around Girl Friday. If you are familiar with the scrapbooking product line of 7gypsies, you may know her as Gypsy #6. These were shot at a recent shoot just messing around with my sensei David Hunsaker (aka the guy who taught me studio lighting back in the day).

And Speaking of Bliss...

The folks at Domestic Bliss and Blissful Living Studios are sponsoring a worthwhile event this Saturday, the 18th in downtown Mesa. Part of this event will be a fundraiser to benefit the Nielsen Family Recovery Fund to help Stephanie and Christian Nielsen who were critically injured in a plane crash in August. Here is a link to the blog with all the items for the Silent Auction. So, go, take the kids, make a day of it. You'll be glad you did!

Is it Fall Yet?

OK, so it just got a bit nippy the last few days (and yes, I watched the weather report and know it isn't going to last---90's by the weekend). But a girl can dream and nothing makes this girl happier than Fall!!! So, I snapped this crappy little picture with my point and shoot of the cute display that Jenn came up with for the season. Those of you coming to pick up your orders in the next few days will get to see it in person---so cute!
The letters, topiary, finial and cute, white pumpkins are all from one of my favorite haunts (halloween pun intended;) Domestic Bliss in downtown Mesa. Go there, buy things, it will make you happy.

Happiness Is...

...for those of you who are - ahem - above a certain age...you will remember Peanut's Snoopy talking about "Happiness is..." There are so many things that make me happy, it would be impossible to list them all so I thought I'd illustrate a few instead...

One of my favorite quotes is by Abraham Lincoln:

Most people are about as happy as they make up their minds to be.

Double the Fun

I've been photographing these two little girls and their wild older brother since the twin's were babies. They turned three a few weeks ago so it was time to celebrate. I just hung a 24x30 canvas of this picture in my studio. I just love the relationship between twins. It is a fascinating relationship. Happy Birthday C and S!

The personality of C is just a crack up. She's an "old soul" who knows who she is and doesn't suffer fools gladly. I love her expression at the antics of her silly older brother R.

Thank Heaven for Guardian Angels

About a year ago the little girl in this picture (Miss Tessa) was saved from a very scary near-drowning during a family outing by her three guardian angels in the photo behind her. How can you adequately thank someone who saves your child's life? There really is no way, but Tessa's mom wanted to try by giving their family a photo shoot to capture the close relationship that this family shares. So here's to The Perry Family, lifesavers and friends and here's to Tessa!

Family: In a Whole New Light

In 2006, I photographed my assistant Jenn and her family at their home (see below).

Lintonfam1_3

This year, we decided to go it one better and invite the increasingly-famous videographer Cameron Trejo along to capture the true essence of this cool fam. Enjoy the show and if you'd like YOUR family to be ROCK STARS, just give us a call!

Happy Birthday Jenn!

You just can't go it alone in this cold, cruel world so it pays to have good people around you. Jenn Linton, my trusty, oft-abused assistant is the grease in the wheels of ATJ Photo--not only is she smart and capable, she is incredibly funny and the best mom in the world. So Happy Birthday to Jenn and here's a little pic of a typical day at the office....love ya Jenn!

Congratulations Breckyn!

It's been about 7 years ago now that I met an 11 year old girl who was unlike anyone I'd ever known before. She was at a tough spot in her life but she wasn't letting it get her down. She had big dreams, she also had a big heart. She showed me that not all 11 year olds are concerned with peer pressure. She knew how to protect and defend those who couldn't help themselves. She was a champion of the underdog and known among her peers (and brothers:) as fierce and fearless in the face of danger. Although some of her ideas caused a few problems now and then (i.e. snowboarding on her tailbone, talking little brothers into leaping over couches resulting in broken bones, getting up close and personal with a ski tow rope handle---I could go on...) she always had good intentions (i think...).

I've learned some important lessons from her; lessons like:
How to be the bigger person and say, "I'm sorry" even when it's hard and you really don't want to.
How to accept people into your life who are different and learn to love them for who they are.
How to be a good friend and a good listener to your friends.
How to take tough situations and disappointment and still come out on top.

Her only problem is that she doesn't yet know that she's beautiful or how amazing she really is. But she will.

So, she's 18 now, a young woman, ready to take on the world. This Thursday, she will graduate high school and move into the world of adulthood. And you know how that time of life goes. You're busy with friends, running here and there, never home. But before she walks up to the podium to get that diploma, I just want to say, "I love you Breckyn, there's no one in the world like you and I'm so grateful to be your step mom."
Go Tigers 2008!
